Presentation
Breaking away from the classical sonata form, Dvořák composed an original trio in 1890 centred around six dumky (Slavic laments). The work brilliantly alternates between sombre, introspective movements and dance-like, joyful and exuberant passages.
Schubert’s Trio, Op. 99
Composed in 1827 by a seriously ill Schubert who was nevertheless at the height of his creativity, this trio in B flat major radiates a luminous vitality that Schumann likened to enchantment. Behind this apparent freshness, however, lie darker undertones, tinged with anxiety, fragility and mystery.
