Come and see a performance of Molière’s play *L’École des femmes* at the Théâtre Montansier.
This comedy in verse examines the desire to mould young people — and particularly young women, who are the targets of ever-contradictory guidelines. My production seeks to reconnect with the popular energy of this great courtly spectacle, in order to reveal its full critical fervour and human sensitivity.
Two worldviews clash head-on. On the one hand, Arnolphe embodies the excesses of patriarchal and tyrannical power: a guardian haunted by an obsession with betrayal, who believes he can create the ideal woman by condemning her to ignorance. On the other, Agnès, whose supposed innocence gives way to a genuine quest for emancipation. Her encounter with Horace marks a turning point: she steps out of the shadows, gains autonomy and asserts her dignity. To bring this clash between control and freedom, blindness and awareness to life, I have assembled a committed cast, combining subtlety of performance with generosity of spirit.
