Passionate about Hugo’s work, Luchini invites audiences to explore the beauty, depth and timeless relevance of the celebrated writer’s poetry and prose. With his remarkable talent for interpreting great literary texts, he reveals the emotional power and richness of Hugo’s language.
The programme focuses particularly on Hugo’s years of exile in Jersey and Guernsey, as well as the personal tragedies that shaped his life, including the death of his daughter Léopoldine. Among the featured works is Booz Asleep, a poem described by Marcel Proust as one of the finest literary achievements of the nineteenth century.
The reading also includes reflections on Victor Hugo by two major French literary figures, Charles Baudelaire and Charles Péguy, offering valuable insight into the lasting influence of Hugo’s work.
