Opera in five acts with libretto by Jules Barbier and Michel Carré, based on the eponymous legend and Goethe's play, premiered at the Théâtre-Lyrique in 1859.
Tarare is a lyric tragedy comprising a prologue and five acts, composed by Antonio Salieri to a French libretto by one of the most famous French playwrights of the time: Beaumarchais.
Presented in the form of a moral tale, this work features the cruel King of Ormuz. Wishing to remove his general, Tarare, from his side so that he might take his betrothed for himself, he sends him off to fight on the frontiers. But the valiant soldier returns victorious at the head of his troops: the army executes the tyrant and elevates their hero to the throne.
