Come and discover Vivaldi’s famous opera, *The Four Seasons*, at the Royal Opera House in Versailles.
Published in Amsterdam in 1725, *The Four Seasons* were such a triumph that they sometimes overshadow the rest of Vivaldi’s catalogue, which comprises over five hundred concertos. This popularity can be attributed to ‘programme music’ of striking expressiveness and great virtuosity. Long before this masterpiece, the composer had already enjoyed immense renown across Europe: his successes in opera had placed him at the pinnacle of the Italian opera scene and earned him the admiration of France, to the extent that he received official commissions from the French ambassador to celebrate King Louis XV.
