Presentation
Conceived as a remedy, his theatre sketches out the utopia of a more lucid and equitable world. Creativity takes centre stage; female characters outwit their circumstances through their wit, and reason consistently triumphs over obscurantism. Molière plays with theatrical conventions to the point of making death an illusion: theatre-within-theatre thus allows for the pretence of death, all the more effectively to reveal the truth.
