Come and enjoy one of Handel’s finest operas, a true ode to love, in this new production by the Royal Opera.
Julius Caesar in Egypt is undoubtedly one of Handel’s finest operas, but rather than being a historical drama, it is first and foremost a story of love. Whereas in most operas, political conflicts thwart the impulses of the heart and other passions, here it is conflicting reasons of state that encourage the blossoming and then the affirmation of the most tender feelings.
An opera in three acts with a libretto by Nicola Francesco Haym, based on Giacomo Francesco Bussani, premiered in London in 1724.
Performed in Italian with French and English surtitles.
