Presentation
Come and discover two excerpts from an opera buffa composed by Mozart in Vienna in 1783, which served as the precursor to the famous *The Marriage of Figaro*.
In Vienna in 1783, Mozart began work on two opera buffa in succession, which he set aside in favour of other projects, but which served as the blueprint for a masterpiece: The Marriage of Figaro (1786).
The theme of marriage, lovers and scheming lies at the heart of two abandoned projects:
The Goose of Cairo, in which an old marquis keeps his daughter locked in a tower to prevent her marriage, with the young lovers devising a ruse to smuggle the groom in… hidden inside a huge mechanical goose.
The disappointed fiancé, and the intertwining of a thwarted marriage and romantic misunderstandings that give rise to sparkling vocal ensembles.
Mozart was already devoted to love and its comic virtuosities, which would make The Marriage of Figaro such a success!
