Presentation
Discover Romantic-era piano techniques during a day dedicated to piano rolls and the earliest recordings by Clara Schumann’s pupils, with pianist Laura Granero.
Delve into the history of piano performance with Laura Granero.
The five pianists taking part in the masterclass continue their work alongside Laura Granero, a ‘historically informed’ pianist whose research focuses on Romantic performance practices and the earliest audio recordings left by the great pianists of that period.
The day’s programme includes a lecture devoted to piano rolls and the earliest recordings by Clara Schumann’s pupils. These sources provide a better understanding of playing styles, interpretative choices and the musical traditions passed down in the late 19th and early 20th centuries.
This event forms part of a weekend dedicated to the connections between Pauline Viardot, Clara Schumann and Robert Schumann. Friends and artists with exceptional careers, Pauline Viardot and Clara Schumann worked to promote Robert Schumann’s music. Their legacy is now being explored through the work of Françoise Thinat and Laura Granero, particularly in relation to the 1898 Érard piano that once belonged to Pauline Viardot.
The day will conclude with a concert by the participants, giving the audience the chance to hear the results of the work carried out during the masterclasses.
An exceptional day offering a fresh perspective on Romantic music and research into historical piano performance practices.
