Presentation
Experience the remarkable story of Pauline Viardot and Ivan Turgenev through a unique musical performance combining narration, singing and piano at Villa Viardot in Bougival.
Step into the world of two outstanding 19th-century cultural figures: celebrated singer Pauline Viardot and Russian novelist Ivan Turgenev.
Accompanied by pianist Julian Rousset, acclaimed young baritone Angelo Heck takes on the role of Turgenev, guiding audiences through the extraordinary life of Pauline Viardot. From their first meeting in Saint Petersburg in 1843 to their years together at the Domaine des Frênes in Bougival between 1874 and 1883, their story unfolds through music and storytelling.
Drawing inspiration from Turgenev’s correspondence, published by the Association des Amis Tourgueniev, Viardot, Malibran (ATVM), this musical production offers an intimate glimpse into one of the most fascinating artistic relationships of the 19th century.
The performance is part of a series of five musical events taking place on July 4, September 12 and October 4, 2026, followed by May 29 and June 19, 2027.
Presented in partnership with the ATVM as part of Villa Viardot’s cultural season hosted by the European Music Centre.
