Presentation
Discover the King’s Kitchen Garden as a living place of knowledge and transmission, where horticulture, landscape and innovation have evolved for centuries.
Since its creation under Louis XIV, the King’s Kitchen Garden has been a place dedicated to experimentation, expertise and the transmission of knowledge. In the 19th century, it became a major centre for horticultural education with the creation of the National School of Horticulture, where the art of training fruit trees reached an exceptional level of mastery.
This guided tour explores the fascinating evolution of the site into a renowned centre for teaching and innovation. Over time, scientific disciplines enriched the curriculum, and after 1945 the garden also became a place for teaching landscape design and garden art. This educational legacy led to the creation of the National School of Landscape Architecture in 1976 and the Higher School of Garden Design in 2025.
Blending living heritage, knowledge transmission and contemporary innovation, the King’s Kitchen Garden remains a unique place where the gardens of tomorrow continue to take shape.
