Presentation
Premiered in 1748, Jean-Philippe Rameau’s *Pygmalion* is a one-act opera-ballet of extraordinary sensitivity. Inspired by the famous classical myth, it tells the story of a sculptor who falls deeply in love with the statue he has created. Through the power of love, the artwork comes to life, offering a moving celebration of artistic creation and human emotion.
A decade later in Vienna, Christoph Willibald Gluck composed *Le Cadi dupé* (*The Duped Cadi*), a French comic opera inspired by an exotic Turkish setting. In an Eastern city, two young lovers wish to marry despite the opposition of the Cadi, a local magistrate. With the help of a clever servant, they devise a series of tricks, disguises and comic misunderstandings that lead to a delightfully entertaining chain of events.
Presented together in a single performance, these two Baroque masterpieces invite audiences on a captivating journey through romance, comedy and imagination. A unique opportunity to experience Rameau’s enchanting *Pygmalion* alongside Gluck’s hilarious and rarely performed *Le Cadi dupé*.
