Presentation
Ms Blanche Leridon, essayist, editorial director of a think tank and lecturer at Sciences Po, will present her latest book, Le château de mes soeurs - Des Brontë aux Kardashian, enquête sur les fratries féminines (My Sisters' Castle: From the Brontës to the Kardashians, an investigation into female siblings), published by Les Pérégrines.
There is no word in the English language to describe sisters. The reasons for this omission are easy to identify: a family consisting solely of daughters has long been considered a failure in our societies, where descendants are passed down through sons. Yet there are many heroic and ordinary examples, from the Little Girls' Models to Kate and Pippa Middleton, from Simone and Hélène de Beauvoir to Venus and Serena Williams, from the seven ancient Pleiades to the Halliwell sisters in Charmed.
Rival sisters, accomplices or witches: this book plunges us into a familiar and mysterious world, more political than we might think, where we glimpse the beginnings of female solidarity. Through this journey, which is both intimate and universal, Blanche Leridon, herself the youngest of several sisters, explores an unthought aspect of feminism and engages in a fascinating archaeology of sisterhood.
