A signature work by composer, pianist and visual artist Gabriel URGELL REYES, the Oratorio de Versailles is a resolutely contemporary creation.

An allegorical marriage celebrating mutual recognition, love and openness to diversity as the foundation of social cohesion. In five scenes, the score brings together a mixed vocal and instrumental ensemble — soprano and countertenor, choir and chamber orchestra — in dialogue with electronic devices and a multidisciplinary scenography where music, visual and digital arts trace a walking route inspired by royal strolls in the Château gardens. Heir to spiritual and secular traditions as well as open to 21st-century innovations, this immersive experience echoes the artistic excellence and aesthetic legacy of Louis XIV.

A multi-award-winning artist (Diapason d'Or, Blüthner Prize, etc.), Gabriel URGELL REYES has developed a radically cross-disciplinary body of work, where contemporary music and poetic material intertwine. Acclaimed for the eclectic audacity of his productions (two nominations for the Independent Music Awards in New York, SACD-Beaumarchais award winner, etc.), URGELL REYES invites you on a true electro-sensory odyssey at the intersection of concert, sound installation and visual arts.
