‘Made in France: a history of textiles’.
Esclarmonde Monteil, Head Curator of Heritage, Museums of France Department, Ministry of Culture, will take you on a fascinating tour of the history of textiles in France and their key role in the economy and society!
This talk is based on the National Archives' exhibition “Made in France”.
‘Made in France. A history of textiles’ sheds light on the action taken by the State to support this industry, from Jean-Baptiste Colbert, Louis XIV's minister and comptroller-general of finance, through to the government plans of the Fourth and Fifth Republics to try and save it from economic crises before its decline and collapse at the end of the 20th century, particularly in Roubaix and Tourcoing.
