Mille francs de récompense - Theater
The innocent Cyprienne and her mother Etiennette are penniless. Businessman Rousseline threatens to seize their property to pay off an unjustified debt. But he is drawn to Cyprienne and proposes a swap: the debt for the girl, who is already madly in love with Edgar Marc, a modest bank clerk. The two women ignore him, but Glapieu, a vagabond who rights wrongs between ‘Gavroche’ and ‘Jean Valjean’, discovers the deception. With nothing left to lose, he decides to help the two women, even if it means losing his own freedom so that justice can be done.
This comic melodrama is highly topical. Because it's necessary to denounce the power of money and corruption, just as it's essential to rehabilitate the notion of goodness and remind us of the true values of the Republic.
Because this play is an ode to justice and charity, and because we need stories with happy endings...
