Presentation
Considered one of the pinnacles of art in Versailles, the Royal Chapel is the result of long and meticulous reflection by the artists of Louis XIV.
A true jewel of French Baroque, its slender architecture, majestic volume, and sculpted decoration make it an exceptional testimony to the refinement of the Grand Siècle.
As the spiritual heart of the Court, it hosted the King’s daily mass and was the setting for grand ceremonies such as those of the Order of the Holy Spirit. This sacred dimension makes it, still today, an ideal venue for the great sacred music masterpieces of the 17th and 18th centuries.
Each year, more than 40 concerts are presented as part of a prestigious musical season, where the works of the great composers of the time resound with all their solemnity and acoustic splendor.
From July 8 to September 30, discover the lower level of the Royal Chapel on a self-guided tour of the last great work undertaken by Louis XIV. Usually closed to the public, this visit offers a unique opportunity to admire the painted ceilings by Antoine Coypel, Charles de La Fosse, and Jean Jouvenet.
Accessible with a Palace ticket or with the Versailles Pass.
