Balbi Park: a discreet gem of charm in the heart of Versailles
Discreetly nestled behind the King’s Kitchen Garden, Parc Balbi is a hidden gem of landscape design with an intimate charm. This romantic garden, laid out in 1785 by architect Jean-François Chalgrin for the Countess de Balbi — favorite of the Count of Provence, future Louis XVIII and brother of Louis XVI — reflects a refined art of living, away from the splendor of the Court.
Although the original buildings have disappeared, the park retains all its former spirit: a winding stream, a discreet belvedere, a vast shaded grotto… all typical features of 18th-century English-style gardens, designed to invite daydreaming and contemplation.
Open to the public free of charge, Parc Balbi is today a true haven of peace, cherished by walkers in search of calm and authenticity. Its green and intimate setting makes it perfect for reading, a quiet stroll, or sharing a moment with family.
### A garden to enjoy every day
With respect for the natural setting and the site’s tranquility, picnics are allowed, as are breaks on the lawns. It is the ideal space to wander, practice gentle exercise, or simply breathe away from the urban hustle.
Parc Balbi stands as a lush refuge, at the crossroads of history, garden art, and the Versailles art of living.
Come and discover a unique landscaped space where history and modernity meet, and where nature, design, and heritage blend elegantly in the heart of Versailles.
