Presentation

The Friends of Georges Bizet celebrate 150 years of Carmen. Popular music from the ramparts of Seville travels through the streets of Bougival and the Parc des Frênes to music inspired by Spain, played in the salons of Pauline Viardot.
To celebrate the 150th anniversary of the creation of Carmen - an opera set in an imaginary Andalusia and conceived in Bougival by Bizet between 1874 and 1875 - the Friends of Georges Bizet wanted to go to the roots of Andalusian traditions with a concert of Cante Flamenco performed by one of the most authentic and moving voices of Jerezano flamenco: Jesús Méndez.

Popular music from the ramparts of Seville, taken from Bizet's Carmen, will wind its way through the streets of Bougival and the Parc des Frênes towards the salons of Pauline Viardot, where an idealised Spain will be evoked in music.

Three exceptional concerts:

Friday 19 September 7.30pm: The great ‘Cante Flamenco’ singer Jesús Méndez, accompanied on flamenco guitar by Pepe del Morao, offers a concert at dusk in the Parc des Frênes (300 seats).

Saturday 20 September 5.30pm and 7pm: Pianist Edoardo Torbianelli recreates the exoticism of Spain with pieces by Chopin, Alkan, Albéniz, Herz, Granados, Masarnau and Ocón (70 double seats).

Sunday 21 September 11.30am and 5.30pm: Mezzo-soprano Anaïs Bertrand and pianist Flore Merlin perform a singing tour of Carmen (70 double seats).
