Presentation

Nestled in the town of Buc, just a few minutes from Versailles, the Château du Haut-Buc is a discreet yet historic site, perfect for a peaceful escape combining nature and heritage, away from the crowds.
Once part of the vast estate of the Palace of Versailles, the Haut-Buc site dates back to the 17th century. During the reign of Louis XIV, it notably served as a retreat for his illegitimate son, Louis Alexandre de Bourbon, future Count of Toulouse, kept away from the eyes of the court before his legitimization.

Destroyed in the 18th century on the orders of Louis XV, the château was rebuilt in the 19th century in the elegant form we see today. Over time, it passed through several owners, including an astronomy enthusiast who installed a giant telescope in the gardens in the 1920s, before experiencing a more turbulent period during World War II.

Acquired by the French State and later by the town of Buc, the château has since been restored and opened to the public, becoming a pleasant place for walking and relaxation.

Built between 1864 and 1866, the current château stands out for its refined architecture inspired by the 18th century, featuring:
- a large Louis XV-style balcony
- façades adorned with sculpted niches
- a flat roof bordered by a balustrade

Nearby, the caretaker’s house, a remnant of the 17th century, recalls the estate’s earlier origins.
