Presentation

For this spring edition of our round-up of exhibitions in the Île-de-France region, art historian Christine Defauw presents an overview of the exhibitions, along with the key insights needed to fully appreciate them.
Each conference will be dedicated to an artist:
Saturday, March 6 at 3 pm – Marie Taglioni: romantic revolution and creation of modern ballet
Saturday 13 March at 3 pm – Hortense Schneider: birth of the operetta diva and modern musical theatre
Saturday, March 20 at 3 p.m. – Sarah Bernhardt: a mythical figure and the invention of the modern star

Dance, operetta and theatre: three disciplines with very distinct styles, but sharing the same force of creation and fascination. These conferences highlight three legendary figures: the ballerina Marie Taglioni, an icon of romanticism who reinvented the poetry of movement; Hortense Schneider, Offenbach’s muse and unmissable star of the Second Empire; and Sarah Bernhardt, mythical tragedian with a flamboyant personality. Through their exceptional destinies, we will discover how these artists have shaken up the codes of their time, reinvented the role of the performer and gave birth to the modern myth of the star of the stage.
